| Description |
Guaymas is a coastal, languid, seafaring community on the Sea of Cortez located in the northwestern Mexican province of Sonora. While sojourning there, I was impressed by the street life and felt inspired to make a musical attempt to capture the mood.
Although set in an unusual key for the guitar, the music never ventures too far afield. I would like to think this depicts the local farmers and fishermen who ply their trades on the outskirts, only to inevitably return home to town center markets and the familiar comforts of domestic life.
Ironically, a friend said some sections reminded him of the distorted and emotionally displaced music from the bar scene in Berg's "Wozzeck".
